Publikation “Andrey Krasulin – Material. Prozess. Intuition”

Der Katalog “Andrey Krasulin – Material. Prozess. Intuition” erschien am 25. August 2011 zeitgleich mit der Eröffnung der gleichnamigen Ausstellung in der Nadja Brykina Gallery in Zürich. Die Publikation illustriert seine aktuellsten Werke, eine Fotoserie in der Schweiz und die wichtigsten Wegpunkte im Schaffen des konstruk-tivistischen, nonkonformistischen russischen Künstlers.

Es war mir eine Ehre und Freude bei diesem Projekt als Kurator der gleichnamigen Ausstellung sowie Editor, Fotograf und Grafiker des Katalogs agieren zu dürfen.

These pictures illustrate the sharp contrasts between the old and new, the bright and the dark china, as well as my helplessness towards this utterly foreign world.
“You have barely arrived, still a little groggy and suddenly you get clobbered with Hong Kong’s skyscapers. Gently you sink into the chilly, endless and commercialised dark waters of a supernational metropolis. Resurrected and ascending from the dark, one may encounter some of the remaining manifold culture from ancient times and desolate individuals in collective urban deserts.”

Approaching a person with photographs is always a tricky thing to do, especially if you want to catch the spirit of a person.
I like this photo story because it’s real, it’s her, it’s just the way she is. Warm colours, artist’s hands, a little bit of an insecure foothold and an amiable smile in a beautiful setting.
